This past weekend, I went home to visit my family in St. Louis. It’s always such a good time seeing them and getting to spend time with my family. And the dogs of course! As I mentioned previously, my mom has a beautiful garden and grows lots of different peppers such as poblanos, jalapenos, serranos, habaneros, and more. She also grows a few different varieties of tomatoes, cucumbers, and many herbs.
This weekend we spent some time harvesting peppers and tomatoes and basil while we drank some coffee. It is so relaxing to be in such a beautiful place and do something fun with my mom. We made bruschetta with the tomatoes and basil and then birria tacos with some of the different peppers. Spending time with my family in the kitchen is one of the things I enjoy most about going home. We all enjoy cooking and coming up with new ideas and trying new recipes. Especially since I don’t live with them anymore, I love going home and sharing my recipes I like to make at my house.
After spending some time at home I decided I’m going to make a screen print reflecting this. I have a few different ideas for this one. I made a sketch of what we harvested from the garden but I may tweak it a bit before putting it onto a screen. I’m probably going to make some screen prints of this design on paper, and then try out a new technique of screen printing with ceramic underglaze. I am going to print the underglaze onto a thin paper called thai kozo which I will then be able to transfer onto one of my ceramic pieces.
I will be including these prints at my BFA show in December and I’m interested to see how they turn out and add to my theme. I’m excited for these and I will be posting photos of this after I’m finished!
