Gingko Leaf Prints

This week I glazed my pitcher that I posted about last week. I ended up glazing it with the firebrick red underglaze and topped with a clear coat. Since we were running out of clear glaze, I mixed up a new one and made some test tiles to see how it looks after being fired. We loaded a glaze kiln yesterday so it will be out today and I will check it to see how my pitcher looks.

I still needed to print something on my gourd, so I decided to try making a different linoleum stamp. My moth linoleum stamp wasn’t printing correctly on my gourd when I tried, so I figured I’d make something smaller. I decided on a ginkgo leaf for the image because I love ginkgo leaves and so does my mom. I’ve always loved the look of them and how they look like little mini fans. I’ve always been drawn to them and when I’m walking and I see a gingko tree it brightens my day.

I used lithography ink and added some oil to it to loosen it for easier printing on the surface I chose. I rolled the ink on and attempted to press them on the side of my gourd. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the full leaf to print, but I actually really enjoyed the texture it created. It wasn’t what I originally was hoping for but I still like the way it turned out. I also made a couple prints on paper out of the stamp and I love how they turned out. I’m looking forward to finishing everything up soon for my BFA show!
