Making a Wreath
One of the last things I needed to finish for my show was the wreath. I went to my family’s farm property with them and my mom and I went to go forage for some fun materials to add onto my wreath. I made my first wreath last year around Christmas and I had never made one before but I was excited to learn because you can customize them. It’s so much more fun to make something like that homemade..and not to mention cheaper. The wreath I made last year was made with all foraged materials and then I added some dried oranges and it looked nice. For this wreath though, I wanted to only use things found at the farm because it relates to my show and I will be displaying it there. I found some mushrooms, berries, tree bark, pine leaves, and my dad had some dried hops and buckeyes that I added onto it as well.
The materials needed to make a wreath are the metal wreath hoop, floral wire, wire cutters, hot glue, and some type of greenery. I typically start by getting a small bundle of whatever type of greenery I want to use and then start wrapping the wire around the base where the stem is and then wrap that around the wreath hoop. I repeat this around the entire wreath making sure everything is very secure. After I have the base layer of greenery, I use hot glue to add on things I want that don’t have a stem and are harder to secure. I am really happy with how my wreath turned out and I think it goes well with my show especially because I incorporated all of the things I could find at the farm.
Besides making my wreath, I also wanted to fix this table from the ceramics studio and make it look more presentable for my table set up at the show. I used a sander to sand down the top of the table so it would take the stain better. I chose a very dark stain to cover up any imperfections from before and I love the look of a dark wood table. It looks so much better than it did before and I’m excited to see everything put together!
