Photographing My Ceramic Work

This week is another week of pulling everything together for my show. I have been working on my artist statement as well as coming up with a title, since I am installing in about two weeks.

I have lots of ceramic things that just came out of the kiln today. I am excited about my ceramic plates that will be at the table set up for my show. I made two different sets of four plates and experimented with different glazes. Both sets of plates have the firebrick red underglaze brushed into the lavender impressions and then wiped away with a wet sponge. One of the sets of plates was thrown on the wheel, and for that set I used a clear glaze. The other set of plates was hand built and has more of the style that the rest of the pieces for my show have. I am thinking I will like the hand built plates more because they will fit better with the show and the impressions are deeper.

Today I decided to photograph most of the things that just came out of the kiln. I am working on creating a price sheet so people are able to purchase things they see at the show. I will be attaching these images to the price sheet so it’s easy to see the prices of each item without putting them up on the wall. We have a nice set up in the ceramics studio for taking photos. We have a backdrop and a light that we can use and it’s a great way to document our work because the photos actually look nice even if they’re just taken with your phone. I took several images of each piece and picked out the best ones for this blog post as well as my instagram page. Feel free to comment on your favorite plate, the white glaze on the hand built plates or the clear glaze on the thrown plates. I also took images of my pitcher and I’m so happy with how it turned out!
